Stage your
home to sell
If you have toured a model home you are probably familiar with the concept of
"staging." Builders often hire professional decorators who create the perfect
setting in the home. They often place artificial items around the house such as
a faux or pretend pizza set on the counter or place settings that will never
get used. The idea is to give people visual clues about how they could use the
home and make them feel at home.
You use many of the
items you already have around the house to stage it for a quick sell. You could
place a board game on a table and set it up to look as though a few people were
in the middle of playing a game. Go ahead and put real cookies and refreshments
such as cold soda pop cans for people who tour your home with their Realtor or
come to your open house.
Get rid of clutter to sell home
If you are serious and want to sell your Minnesota home in a matter of days
instead of months, make sure you get rid of the clutter. Since you are probably
moving anyway, it's time to put everything in boxes and into a storage facility
that does not need to say as part of the "stage" that prospective buyers will
see.
Realize your home is no longer a place for you to relax and enjoy being with
your family. It is now an investment. In order to get the most out of your
investment you need to detach.
Make your home warm, but generic
While you want to make your home feel warm and inviting in order to sell it
quickly, you don't want to make it feel too much like a home that belongs to
someone else. In other words, a prospective buyer will have a hard time
visualizing himself or herself in the home if it's filled with photographs of
your family. Put away items that are too personalized. Instead, decorate the
walls with nature scenes that anyone would enjoy.
Finally, never underestimate the power of getting all of the senses involved
when you are trying to sell your home. Bake bread to fill your kitchen with the
aroma of fresh baked bread. Use lavender essential oils in the bathroom. Burn
scented candles. Make sure your home does not smell like mildew. You may want
to open the windows for a few days to give the home a fresh smell. Just make
sure you get out the flyswatter and start swatting before you the showings if
you want to sell your Minnesota home.
